| Greg Laughery |
Upbringing Laughery was born in San Francisco, California. His nominally Catholic and then Lutheran family lived in an apartment just around the corner from the soon to become famous Haight-Ashbury district. In the days of 1952, this was a quiet, fairly traditional, racially mixed, family neighborhood, only to explode later in the 1960s to a national and international phenomenon, where thousands of young people gathered to protest the Vietnam war and to live in community. Eventually making his way to Europe in 1980, Laughery studied with Dr. Francis Schaeffer at Swiss L’Abri Fellowship, before going on the take a theology degree at the London School of Theology, a license and a specialization diploma in New Testament at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and a PhD at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. His dissertation Living Hermeneutics in Motion: An Analysis and Evaluation of Paul Ricoeur's Contribution to Biblical Hermeneutics received the highest honors. He has continued to publish in the field of biblical hermeneutics and other areas of interest, and has been particularly lauded for his work on the French philosopher/theologian Paul Ricoeur and for his writings on Christian spirituality. Current WorkDr. Laughery has been a staff worker at Swiss L'Abri since 1985. Married to the granddaughter of Dr. Francis Schaeffer and a father of three boys, Dr. Laughery has taught about lectured on topics related to Christian spirituality from a Biblical Christian worldview. While his focus has been theology, Greg has also had the opportunity to tutor students as they have come to the L'Abri community seeking answers to life's questions. Through his times as a tutor and mentor, Greg has had the opportunity to write about his experiences and lessons he has learned. |
