GREGORY J. LAUGHERY
Biography
Dr Gregory J. Laughery is the Director of the L’Abri Fellowship community in Switzerland, where he and his wife Elizabeth, married in 1985 and raised their three sons. Greg has worked in a diversity of jobs, including real estate, trucking, and running his own import-export business, before coming to Swiss L’Abri as a student himself. After working as a staff member there for a time, Greg left to do a BA in Theology in London. After this, he returned to Switzerland to take a job with Prudential Bache Securities in Geneva, before he and Elizabeth joined the L’Abri team in 1988. Greg also has an MA in New Testament studies and a PhD in Theology/Hermeneutics on the work of Paul Ricoeur, both degrees earned from Swiss universities. In addition to his long term involvement with L’Abri, Greg has been part of the Scripture & Hermeneutics Consultations, traveling the world for lectures and seminars.
Greg has published several articles and books including, Scripture, Science, and Hermeneutics, Postmodernism, History, and Biblical Hermeneutics, Living Spirituality: Illuminating the Path, Living Spiritual: Rhythms For Today, Living Reflections: Theology, Philosophy, and Hermeneutics and is currently working on a book on the topic of imagination. He writes for pastors, teachers, and students who want to engage with some of today’s tough challenges to the Christian faith and to come away with credible responses. One of his deep passions is to help people think and live clearly for the sake of Christ, and to develop a living spirituality that touches the whole of life.
Greg’s interests are varied and he enjoys Alpine hiking, cross country and downhill skiing, biking, swimming, as well as music, art, and reading stories.
